postheadericon Monofilament Fishing Line And Its Application

by Anna Gentry

A monofilament fishing line is a tool that is used in trapping of the edible aquatic animals. As its name suggests, it is single-lined and made from plastic fibers. In the recent past, these traps gained enormous popularity since they were cheaply available in shops and the raw materials for their manufacture were readily available.

The thicknesses of these tools are varied since they are meant to catch fish of different strengths and those that live in different depths below the sea. This also depends on the water bodies they are intended to be applied. They also have varied tensile strengths as their application is specific.

Their manufacture entails the melting of a number of polymers. The melted polymers are then mixed to come up with a required blend. What follows is the pouring of the mixture into tiny openings in order to come up with the intended fibers.

Such gadgets were first manufactured in the year 1938 since this was when nylon was innovated. The introduction of these tools into the market gave a boost to the mass production of fish as they were relatively easy to use. Another reason for the boost was that they could not be easily spotted by fish hence they were lured into traps.

These tools are not only used in the catching of fish but also in other areas that are not in any way related to aquatic life. The best example is such an application is in the production of medicines. Their byproducts are used to make some products that have curative effects. They may also be used to make jewelry since they are shiny.

Contrary to all their advantages discussed above, a monofilament fishing line also has disadvantages that may cause serous havoc if not looked into. This filament is always disposed anyhow and when broken, it may entangle other animals like birds leading to their death. Due to this reason, government sponsored programs have been initiated to help recycle the unwanted filaments.
